IGN Hands-On Mario Galaxy

IGN got a special hands-on with Mario Galaxy, and has shared some really nice information concerning how the Game really feels starting from the beginning.

Maybe it’s because development studio Nintendo Tokyo has with Galaxy created a title that feels like a true successor to Mario 64, which is no easy task, or maybe it’s because we’re simply platformer junkies. It could also be because Galaxy is Wii’s best looking title. Probably it’s a combination of all three. Whatever the case, though, the project amazes us every time we see and play it, and our latest hand-on proved to be no exception. We’ve written about the basics 10 times over, so with today’s update we’ve focused on the beginning of the experience — exactly what you’ll do the first time you boot up.

The preview includes some information on some “WiiConnect24″ features the game might have, the opening story, some technical specs, and other interesting tidbits. It’s two pages long, but certainly worth the read for Mario fans.

Also, here is the opening sequence to Mario Galaxy:

And the story background from IGN:

“Every hundred years, a comet appears in the skies above mushroom kingdom. The comet was so large one year, it filled the skies and sent countless shooting stars raining down. The Toads brought the shooting stars to the castle, where they became a great Power Star. It should have been a very happy time for the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. That was the night of the Star Festival, held once every hundred years to celebrate the comet.”
